Ranchi is the capital of the Indian state of Jharkhand. Ranchi was the centre of the Jharkhand movement, which called for a separate state for the tribal regions of South Bihar, northern Odisha, western West Bengal and the eastern area of what is present-day Chhattisgarh. The Jharkhand state was formed on 15 November 2000 by carving out the Bihar divisions of Chota Nagpur and Santhal Parganas. Ranchi has been selected as one of the hundred Indian cities to be developed as a smart city under PM Narendra Modi's flagship Smart Cities Mission.

Ranchi is also one of the oldest cities in Jharkhand. Ranchi is rapidly growing its economy, and certain parks, special economic zones and industrial areas are being developed. Of late, new sectors and modern areas have been built for the city's development. Ranchi is also nicknamed the City of Waterfalls.

About Dassam Falls
Dassam Falls, the name has been derived from the number of the streams that fall from a distance of 144 feet above, from the River Kanchi. Dassam falls is also known as Dassam Ghagh. This is amongst one of the other beautiful waterfalls of the region for which tourists come from everywhere and it has greenery all around. It’s musical and empowering, the tunes and melody that you encounter, is a different feeling in all. It is not recommended to play and/or bath in, as it is very dangerous, especially for kids. If you are interested in recreational activities, there are facilities provided on the Kanchi River. It’s located on the Ranchi- Tata road which is approximately 34 kms from Ranchi. The Dasam Falls (Hindi/दासम झरना/) is the collective name for cascade type waterfalls Ranchi. They form the southern end of the Kanchi River. Dasam Falls is famed for its beauty and as a valuable source of hydroelectric power. Balancing recreational and commercial uses has been a challenge for the stewards of the falls since the 1930s. This Dasam waterfall is formed when the river Abe of Swarnekhara falls from a height of 144 ft (44 m) flowing from the plateau of southern Chhotanagpur plateau or Ranchi. If you want to see Leela of the mountains of Jharkhand, this place is the best, which at first glance really looks like the Himalayan valleys. Forests are forests all around and the waterfall of the spring is quite deep. In winter it is the best picnic spot in jharkhand. Dasam falls picnic spot has all facilities for a perfect picnic.

Dassam Waterfall is a natural cascade across the Kanchi River, also a tributary of the Subarnarekha River. The major water source of this waterfall is River Kachni. In this fall one can see more than one water stream falling too.
