Laid Back History - ROAD TRIP - The National Road: From Washington to the West Virginia Border

Let’s take a trip on the National Road from Washington to the West Virginia border!

It’s time to take Laid Back History on the road again! On this episode of Laid Back History - ROAD TRIP, sponsored by the National Road Heritage Corridor, Clay is joined by Rich and Bryan for a journey westward on the historic National Road. Although much of the original National Road can be seen today by traveling the path of modern Route 40, twentieth-century efforts to ‘straighten’ the route for the higher speeds of motorized vehicles resulted in the bypassing of some portions of old National Road. However, many of those bypassed sections still exist today. In fact, many motorists travel on them every day not realizing that they are driving on America's very first highway system, constructed more than two centuries ago.

This evening, Rich, Bryan, and Clay will take you to some of those bypassed sections of old National Road and share some of the road’s amazing history. Along the way, they’ll bring to life a part of history you may not even know existed.

Come along with us for the ride!
