American Persimmon - Harvesting one of the best fruits ever!

Perhaps our favorite fruit? That would say a lot... There is something about a fruit that only begins to ripen after everything is done. It's like a grand finale on the abundance of what nature can offer through the arc of a growing season. In our area, we begin harvesting American Persimmons a bit before Thanksgiving. The peak harvest almost always seems to overlap with Thanksgiving for us. What a beautiful thing!
Incredibly productive, super hardy, can handle all sorts of tough growing conditions, easy to grow from seed, easy to dry or make jams or cook with... It is certainly one of the most important tree crops I want in our landscape. We plan to put in at least a hundred more!!!
