An anti-aromatic compound is a type of molecule that exhibits behavior that is the opposite of what is observed in aromatic compounds. This means that, unlike aromatic compounds, anti-aromatic compounds have a low degree of stability and tend to react readily with other compounds. Anti-aromatic compounds often have a fully conjugated cyclic structure with an odd number of electrons and a planar or nearly planar geometry. As a result of their electron configuration, they are highly reactive and tend to undergo spontaneous transformations or react easily with other compounds, resulting in the loss of their aromaticity.
