The New Atlantis is a utopian work about the future of human discovery and knowledge by Sir Francis Bacon. In this work, Francis Bacon expresses his vision, aspirations, and ideals for humanity. We have Bacon the scientist indulging without restriction in his prophetic vision of the future of human knowledge in Solomon's House and depicting the creation of a utopian land where the generosity and enlightenment, dignity and splendor, piety and public spirit of the citizens of Bensalem represent the ideal qualities that Bacon the statesman desired rather than hoped to see characteristic of his own country. He had no interest in pure metaphysics or any other sort of abstract thought that produced no "fruit," as evidenced by the practical uses found for the discoveries made by the scholars of Solomon's House. The work's intrigue doesn't end here, either. It has a lot of political and scientific ideals that we haven't quite reached yet but which offer valuable suggestions and inspiration for the future.
