Lesson Objectives: To be able to understand how the photoelectric current can arise and what the term stopping voltage means. To be able to link the Kinetic energy of the emitted electron to the stopping voltage. To be able to derive the equation hf=∅+Vse

Description: Prior knowledge videos, ensure that you have watched the video on the photoelectric effect before watching this one.    • AS/A Level Physics: The Photoelectric...  . So in this lesson we try and combine the photoelectric effect with an electrical circuit. We shine UV light at a terminal and notice that electrons are emitted which cross the gap to the other terminal. This creates a photoelectric current. But lets say we wanted to stop the photoelectric current. Well in order to do this, we must reverse the poles of the battery so that the electron is attracted back to the terminal it was emitted from and repelled from the terminal it is travelling to. The voltage you need to stop the photoelectric current is called the stopping voltage, Vs. The Kinetic energy of the electron is equal to the stopping voltage multiplied by the charge of the electron, which i outline in the video: Ek = Vs x e. Don't forget V = E/q, voltage is equal to the energy per unit charge. Then finally we can incorporate this into our Photoelectric equation hf=∅+Ek as hf=∅+Vse
