History-making Olympian speaks to VOA about competing for Dominica | VOA Africa

Thea LaFond recently made history after winning the triple jump gold medal at the Paris Olympics.

Her win secured the first-ever gold medal for the Caribbean nation of Dominica.

In an interview with VOA’s Muqbil Yabarow, LaFond, who was born in Dominica and raised in the United States, said choosing which country to represent wasn’t a difficult decision.

“My heart was always in the Caribbean,” she said.
