Microsoft Excel Tutorial: Solve the Wrap Text Problem in Excel with These Workarounds.

Welcome back to the MrExcel netcast, where we tackle all your Excel problems and help you become an Excel pro. In today's episode, we have a great question from Ann, who attended one of my seminars in Stevens Point, Wisconsin. She's facing an issue with a file sent by a vendor, where there are 250 words in a single cell and she can't see all of them unless she selects the cell. Let's see how we can solve this problem together.

First, we'll turn on the Wrap Text feature by going to Format Cells and selecting Wrap Text and Vertical Top. This will allow us to see more words in the cell, but we'll still face a limit. When we try to make the cell wider, we notice that it stops showing more words after a certain point. This is a problem we've encountered in previous versions of Excel as well.

To overcome this issue, we'll use the Alt+Enter trick. By clicking in the cell right before the words we can't see and pressing Alt+Enter, we can see more of the cell's content. However, this can be a tedious process if we have multiple cells with a large amount of text. In Excel 2007, there is a better solution available.

Excel 2007 introduced the amazing expanding formula bar, which allows us to see all the words in a cell if we make the cell wide enough. However, if the cell is not wide enough, we'll still face the limit of 409 rows. In this case, we can use a workaround by replacing the cell with a text box. This may seem strange, but it allows us to paste as much text as we want and see it all without having to use Alt+Enter.

So, if you're using Excel 2003, the text box or Alt+Enter trick is your solution. But if you're using Excel 2007, simply make the cell wide enough and use a small font size to see all the words.
