Blake focuses on the mapping of a section of the Golden Pipeline using a Terrestrial Laser Scanner (TLS). He analysed the mapping precision of a network observed using a Leica C10 TLS scanner and its effect on the mapping of an elongated object (pipeline) using a dense point cloud captured by the scanner. The data was acquired in BullaBulling along a part of the Golden Pipeline from Perth to Kalgoorlie. The control network observed by a TS15 total station was adjusted using Least Squares. Then, segments of the pipeline were extracted. Due to the nature of how the control network was established, longer segments tend to have a larger displacement towards the end of the pipes. This is most commonly due to a large elevation change along the pipe for the segment, where the model no longer fits the end of the pipe accurately and causes the large displacement.
