Massive fire erupts at Evin prison in Tehran as gunshots are heard

MAJOR blaze erupted on Saturday at the Evin prison in Tehran, where many of Iran's political and dual-national detainees are held, and witnesses reported hearing gunfire.

Online Iranian videos showed smoke rising from the prison as the alarm goes off.

Iranian protesters marched amongst traffic towards the prison on Saturday (October 15) night and into Sunday morning (October 16) in support of inmates after a fire broke out at the facility.

There was no immediate comment from Iranian officials or reports from state media on the footage, which was shared on social media.
