Here's a vital rule for email list building - one that most people don't know, but that has a huge impact on the quality of the list you build, your email deliverability, and your success in email marketing.

Most people focus all their time, money and energy trying to build a big email list.

But what they fail to pay attention to is how to get the people who opt-in to get a free lead magnet to actually open, read, and click on links in their future emails.

That's where the key cardinal rule of list building comes in: never give them the thing they opted-in to receive on the thank you page.

Here's what happens when you do that. They then don't need to open the email you just sent them, so many of them don't. And since they didn't open that one, they're not likely to open the next one you send or the one after that.

Pretty soon, you're just another spammer to them.

Plus the email companies of the world see that people aren't opening your emails, so they send them to people's promotional email tabs, or worse, their spam box.

Doing so tells them you're looking out for their best interests and gets them even more excited to open the email you just sent them and the ones that will come after that.
