At our Grossing Station again, this time with lung specimen. Grossing in histology refers to the process by which pathology specimens are examined with the naked eye to obtain diagnostic information. It involves describing, measuring, and sampling tissues, as well as cutting them for subsequent microscopic examination. It is important that the technician properly assesses the specimen, prepares it by cutting it into thin slices (usually 2-3mm thick), handles the specimen carefully to avoid trauma, avoids cross-contamination, and chooses the appropriate cassette size to prevent fragments from escaping during processing.
