Interlocking blocks are developed by Dr. Azhar Saleem as an alternative to traditional blocks/bricks. These blocks have unique shape that fits together snugly, minimizing (or may be eliminating) the need for mortar. The resulting structures are earthquake, flood and wind resistant. Interlocking blocks are also environment friendly, as they use lesser amount of materials and use waste products like fly ash. These blocks can be used in constructing houses, schools, and even small bridges. After the devastating flood of summer 2022 a destroyed house in the suburbs of Taunsa Sharif, Punjab was identified and rebuild using interlocking blocks, which were prepared on site without using any machine. The use of interlocking blocks can increase construction speed and lower costs, making it a popular choice for developing countries where resources are limited.
