Описание к видео Motion Designer Reacts to Bad & Great Title Sequences 06

In this episode of Reacts, I look at two recent Christmas-film title sequences — the stop-motion opening for Amazon Prime’s Oh. What. Fun. (2025) and the hand-animated intro to Netflix’s A Very Merry Ex-Mas.

Both sequences are doing a lot of heavy lifting early on: setting tone, signalling intent, and quietly promising a kind of film the audience may or may not end up getting. One leans into handcrafted charm and tactile detail, timed carefully to music. The other throws everything at the frame — character backstory, illustration, mixed media, and restless camera moves — with mixed results.

Along the way, I dig into stop-motion craft, hand-drawn animation, paper engineering, editorial choices, legibility, colour, and the very real constraints of budget and legal delivery that shape modern opening credits. There are moments that work beautifully, moments that feel compromised in the edit, and a few decisions that feel more revealing than the filmmakers probably intended.

It’s also a reminder of how rare hand-animated title sequences have become — and why, even in the context of straight-to-streaming Christmas movies, they still stand out as some of the most interesting work on screen.
