Elastic Deformation: Learn how forces can cause a change in the size and shape of an object, and understand the concept of elastic deformation, where an object returns to its original shape once the deforming force is removed.
Spring Constant: We define the spring constant as the force required to stretch or compress a spring by a unit amount. The spring constant is given by the formula:
Spring Constant (k) = Force / Extension (k = F / x)
You will learn how to calculate and use the spring constant for various applications.
Load-Extension Graphs: Understand how to sketch, plot, and interpret load–extension graphs for elastic solids. These graphs show the relationship between the force applied to an object and its extension. You will also learn the experimental procedures involved in creating these graphs.
