Dr. Ysaye M. Barnwell is best known as a member of the internationally acclaimed a cappella quintet Sweet Honey in The Rock, with whom she recorded and toured the world from 1979 to 2013, and for whom she wrote many social justice songs. A native New Yorker now living in Washington, DC, she is well-known for her work as a singer, actress, teacher, choir director, community worker, and retired health care professional. Would You Harbor Me? was written by Barnwell for the album Sacred Ground (1995). It asks the hard questions of us personally.
