The Intersectional Therapist

Описание к видео The Intersectional Therapist

This episode of "Our Time" invites us to explore how important it is to see representation of diverse cultures and communities in the mental health field. Psychotherapist Andrea Saavedra-Metoyer brought to light the relevance of meeting clients where they are and highlighting all of their experiences of identity. We discussed the value of recognizing the many identities that make up a person, given their cultural backgrounds and life experiences. This led to reflection on cultural humility and its role in providing supportive services that acknowledge the unique experiences of marginalized communities. We covered several points regarding identity while reflecting on our own, as clinicians honoring our communities and ancestors. From life in the pandemic to healing burnout and restfulness, this conversation was at once delightful and restorative!

Thank you, Andrea, for your candor and sensitivity towards these issues! Andrea has dedicated her clinical skills to supporting underrepresented and underserved populations as she felt it is her ethical duty to support the communities that got her to this point in my career.

Andrea Saavedra-Metoyer is trained in trauma-informed practices such as EMDR and TF-CBT. Over the last 3 years, she has become a Certified EMDR practitioner along with Certified Intuitive Eating Counselor. Andrea is a Bilingual clinician who integrates intersectional feminist beliefs, social justice, and multicultural appreciation with her therapeutic approaches.
