"This is not a celebration of a music, you know an entertainer taking on a brand new venture and pushing his name somewhere. The show doesn't say Pharrell anywhere, it doesn't have Virginia on there. When it is anything music affiliated you see my name and you see where I am fro, it's not about that. "

9. SOUNDBITE (English) Pharrell Williams: "Our line is based on exclusivity. It's not made to be super commercialised, and the shoe that we have that will be a little more accessible to those kids are more performance. These are collectibles, if you notice every detail on this shoe is covered, right down to the shoe strings, there is a logo, the bottom of the shoe, who can see through the bottom of their shoes, what other shoe company shoes that, we made sure, because the shoe is 225 it is not the price of ice cream sandwich, it's 225 so we wanted to really give you your dollars worth. And I don't expect for kids to pay that, you know what I'm saying! "

PHARRELL GIVES A TASTER OF NEW FASHION FLAVOUR

Grammy-winning musician, producer and N.E.R.D. frontman Pharrell Williams is launching an apparel collection next month, following in the footsteps of an increasing number of rockers and rappers moving into fashion, including P. Diddy, Eminem, J-Lo, Gwen Stefani, and 50 Cent.

Williams, one of the music industry's most revered producers, teamed up with Japanese designer Nigo to produce a line of clothes and sneakers for Reebok which will debut in September 2004.

The footwear collection is called Ice Cream and the clothing line is called Billionaire Boys Club -- or B-B-C. Diamonds and dollar signs feature prominently on the designs but according to Williams, they are meant to remind people that money is not what it's all about.

According to Reebok the line is geared towards an urban, hip-hop audience. The brand manager said the line speaks to the "sneakerologist." During a press conference held in lower Manhattan on Wednesday, Williams said it was not geared towards children. The sneakers cost $225 (U.S.D.) and the clothing ranges between $50 for a hat and $170 for a hooded sweatshirt.

The sneakers that Williams and Nigo modelled are from their limited line. Initially only 3,000 pairs of sneakers will hit the market, sold at exclusive stores such as Fred Segal in Los Angeles, Colette in Paris and Harvey Nichols in London.

A women's line is expected to launch in early 2005.
