Aligning and Driving Larssen Steel Sheet Piles for a Watertight Wall

This video shows a common construction process called sheet piling. Workers are using a pile driver machine to install Larssen steel sheet piles into the ground. These sheets are long, strong steel sections with interlocking connections on their edges. The goal is to create a solid, continuous wall underground. This wall acts as a barrier to hold back soil and water, which is essential for building foundations or deep pits. At the start, you see a worker carefully guiding a new sheet pile. He is manually connecting its interlocking edge to the corresponding groove of the pile already in the ground. This initial manual guidance is a critical step for ensuring a correct connection. If the interlock is not perfectly aligned, the piles will not join properly. A bad connection would compromise the wall's strength and its ability to hold back water. This careful hand-guiding prevents the interlock from slipping or getting damaged when the pile driver starts. Once the connection is perfectly seated, the pile driver is activated. The machine then vibrates or hammers the new sheet pile straight down into the soil. This process is repeated for each new pile, linking them one by one. In the end, these connected sheets form a single, strong, and watertight retaining wall.
