M&R Technical Services Advisor Dan Goldberg shows how and why to use manual clamps on the screen frame holders found on M&R automatic screen printing presses. Dan explains that the air pressure system clamps on M&R automatic presses keep screen frames in registration. However, as Dan points out, any loss of air pressure to the automatic press can lead to the screen frame locks disengaging—and to a subsequent loss in screen registration.

That’s why it’s important to back up the pneumatic clamps with M&R’s manual screen clamping system if the air pressure system is normally shut down at the end of the workday. Dan also makes it clear that the pressure applied to the manual clamps should be minimal in order to avoid deforming the screen frames or damaging the clamps. Specifically, Dan advises screen printers to apply no more than half a turn once the white plastic foot of the clamp touches the screen frame.

Manual clamps can remain engaged—or they can be disengaged—when pressure is restored to the press, but M&R’s pneumatic clamping system is more than adequate to maintain registration so long as the press is supplied with a minimum air pressure of 100 PSI.
