It's a great resource, with a listing for every G-Shock watch which has been released since the very beginning in 1983. If you want to know which model is which along with a database of functions and features for all G-Shocks, this is the right place to look!

I recently took stock of all of the G-Shock releases for 2024 according to the Shockbase.org website. I found there were 243 G-Shocks released so far or scheduled to still be released before the end of 2024. (And, in the last couple of days, that number has grown to 245.) As I looked over the entire list, I realized that I've only purchased 2 of the 2024 releases. ONLY TWO!

So, what happened? Well, since somewhere around the year 2018 I've been collecting dozens of G-Shocks and other Casio watches. I find that there are two favorite functions and features among all of the watches in my collection. I like a watch which can set itself to the correct "atomic time" using Wave Ceptor or "Multiband 6" technology and I'm a big fan of Tough Solar to keep a watch charged with plenty of power WITHOUT frequent battery changes. If any Casio watch has those two things going for it then I'm interested in the watch. But I also like a watch that's relatively affordable. Particularly, I like a watch which costs less than $200 and, ideally, less than $150. Back in 2018 I could find a lot of Solar/Atomic watches for under $100 if I looked carefully.

In more recent years, Casio seems less interested in including Multiband 6 technology on many of its new releases. The wildly popular "Casioak" watches have now been released in many different colors and styles (more than 200 variations by my count!), but a relative few of them have Tough Solar technology and Multiband 6 is only available on two models which are very different from the others and extremely expensive. (I just can't imagine myself paying more than $4,000 for a G-Shock.)

So, what does all of this mean to a guy like me who wants better-than average features at relatively affordable prices? I'm disappointed that I wasn't very interested in the 2024 releases at the prices I saw this year. But I haven't given up hope. The year 2024 was full of struggles for lots of individuals and lots of businesses around the world. Perhaps the future will be more encouraging.
