Taliban now converting schools to Madrasas, says ex-Afghan education minister Balkhi

Mirwais Balkhi joined the Ministry of Education of Afghanistan under the former Islamic Republic of Afghanistan government in 2018 as the Minister of Education and prior to that he served as the Deputy Chief of Mission of the Embassy of Afghanistan in New Delhi when he was with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Afghanistan. After planning to stay back in his country post the Taliban takeover in August 2021, Balkhi and his family had to leave the country in search of a safe haven. He believed this time the Taliban will not be able to rule even for five years as it did last time and that resistance against the group is growing by the day. Afghanistan will soon see massive uprisings against the Taliban as it continues to wreak havoc there and carry on their violence, he told Nayanima Basu in this #ThePrintInterview.
