Arunachal CM Pema Khandu pens down emotional message on father’s 69th birth anniversary

Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu penned down an emotional message on the 69th birth anniversary of his father and the 6th Chief Minister of the state Dorjee Khandu.

The Chief Minister’s message begins with saying, “Papa, I miss you!”

He further wrote, “Not a day goes by without seeking the blessings of my dearest father, Late Shri Dorjee Khandu Ji, former Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh. His legacy and presence were truly captivating. On his 69th birth anniversary, I fondly remember the life lessons he taught me. His dedication for welfare of people and vision for development of the State continue to inspire me to serve our sisters and brothers passionately, committedly and zealously.”

Born in March 19, 1955, Dorjee Khandu served as the Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh twice. However, his foray into politics was preceded by his service in the Indian Army where was deployed in the intelligence wing for seven years and received a gold medal for rendering meritorious services during the India-Pakistan war which led to the formation of Bangladesh. Khandu was also popularly known as the People's Chief Minister, as he had helped set up schools, arrange drinking water supplies, electricity and communication in the far-flung areas of the hill state.

It was on April 30, 2011, when the helicopter carrying Khandu and four other people on a trip from Tawang to Itanagar disappeared. Remnants of the crashed helicopter were found five days later at Luguthang, near the China border.
