Doris Day and Clark Gable presenting the Oscars® for Writing (Screenplay Based on Material from Another Medium) to Pierre Boulle for "The Bridge on the River Kwai," accepted by Kim Novak, and for Writing (Story and Screenplay Written Directly for the Screen) to George Wells for "Designing Woman," at the 30th Academy Awards® in 1958. Hosted by Bob Hope. Though Pierre Boulle received official screen credit, it was commonly known that blacklisted writers Michael Wilson and Carl Foreman wrote the screenplay based on Mr. Boulle's novel (translated from the French). The Board of Governors, on December 11, 1984, voted posthumous Oscars to Wilson and Foreman.
