How to Care for Your New Lawn with Wickes

Watering

Watering your new turf is the single most important step you need to take to establish a healthy lawn. Start watering as soon as the turf is laid (on hot days you may need to start watering before you've finished laying all the turf).

Lift the corner of the turf and see whether the water has percolated through to the soil below to ensure your new lawn is never short of water.

Check the lawn is receiving a sufficient amount of water, even when it rains.

Water the turf in the early morning or evening so that less water is lost to evaporation.

Mowing Your Lawn

Mowing encourages establishment and once your turf can be mowed without dislodging it, it is ready to mow. Check whether your turf would become dislodged by gently trying to lift it (if the turf can be lifted easily, replace it and allow more time to establish).

Mowing your lawn within the first few weeks should be the only time you walk on it.

Ensure your lawnmower has been sharpened within the last twelve months as blunt blades will damage the new turf.

Never remove more than one third of the grass blade length.

Alternate the direction in which you mow your lawn.
