Jobs went over to John Sculley, and told him that they needed to drop the price of the Mac. Sculley, before joining Apple, was the CEO of Pepsico, a company, where only sales and profits were the yardstick to determine the success of a company. Apple was different. They were more into innovation and technology ,with which Sculley couldn't identify himself. He told Jobs that the reduction in price of the Mac would reduce the sales and revenues of the company and that would be a bad move.
During one of the board meeting, this issue was brought forward, and everyone on the board sided with John Sculley. The board directors asked Steve to either look after the LISA division (which was practically doing nothing) or resign, which was the polite way of saying, either look after the LISA division else you are fired. Jobs knew there was nothing left in LISA and hence he was fired from the company.
