This is the cleanest and most hygienic type of natural luxury bedding as no microscopic life can live in mulberry silk. It does not degrade over time and so remains clean, fresh and hygienic for many years.

All Silk Bedding Direct Luxury Range silk duvets are filled with hypoallergenic top grade long-strand 100% natural mulberry silk. Hand stretched into the duvet casing the silk is then loop sewn and tied by hand through the casing to prevent movement. Hand loop sewing is used to avoid crushing the precious silk inside and stop much needed insulating layers of air being expelled. It is a much superior method to machine "pattern" sewing and the result is a more comfortable, luxurious and higher quality silk duvet.

Silk-Filled Duvets

Most mulberry silk-filled duvets on the market today cannot be produced in this way because the quality of the silk used is not sufficiently high. In order for hand loop sewing to be possible only the best long-strand mulberry silk can be used. Of course it is also cheaper to machine sew so this is the method most other suppliers use.

Besides the superior quality of the mulberry silk itself, thermal insulating properties created by air being enclosed between the fine silk threads is one of the reasons that Silk Bedding Direct's mulberry silk-filled duvets are so light and comfortable, and so effective in regulating sleeping temperature.

All our silk duvets, mattress toppers and pillows are fitted with a small inspection zip so you can see and feel the wonderfully soft silk inside for yourself. You will find the zip next to the OEKO Standard 100 "Confidence in Textiles" label.

Silk-Filled Mattress Toppers

For our luxury mattress toppers, a top quality "secure-fit" cotton sateen elasticated skirt is fitted around all sides, this pulls underneath the topper with elastic in the same as a fitted bed sheet does. This ensures that the topper is attached to the bed much more securely as compared to the usual straps and cannot shift once fitted. Suitable for all mattresses (up to a depth of 45cm/18").

Importantly, the precious mulberry silk interior is kept firmly in place within the casing without the need to sew back and forth across the whole of the mattress topper. Instead, to avoid crushing the precious silk inside, attractive flower patterns are loop sewn at regular intervals. This ensures that the insulating layers of air between the fine silk threads are kept in place properly without damaging the silk and results in a more comfortable, luxurious and higher quality silk-filled mattress topper.

Silk-Filled Pillows

As with all our luxury silk bedding, the mulberry silk interior of the pillows is of such high quality as not to require any chemical treatment or processing. It is all 100% natural and hypoallergenic mulberry silk and nothing else. The silk-filled pillow casing itself is a soft and comfortable yet durable and and long lasting 300 thread count cotton sateen.
