MIAMI (NBA.com exclusive) -- Miami guard Dwyane Wade flirted with a triple-double Tuesday night, finishing with 35 points, six rebounds and 12 assists to lead the Heat to a 110-106 victory over Golden State at AmericanAirlines Arena.

Apparently, such a Herculean effort from a superstar is what it takes for the Miami Heat to beat one of the worst teams in the league in South Florida. After all, the Heat were fortunate to escape with the victory. It took a pair of free throws from guard Carlos Arroyo with 5.1 seconds left to secure the win against the hapless Warriors. Such is the plight of a .500 team.

"Pretty is overrated," said Wade, who also added four steals to an ugly Miami victory.

Miami (30-31) managed to stay in the eighth and final playoff spot in the East with the win. Golden State (17-42), which was a relatively sparkling 4-4 in its last eight games, fell to 4-24 on the road, the second-worst record in the NBA away from home just ahead of New Jersey (3-27).

Golden State took an injury-shortened roster to Miami, having just eight players in uniform. Three Warriors -- rookie guard Stephen Curry (18 points, eight assists), guard C.J. Watson (20 points, six steals) and forward Anthony Tolliver (10 points, eight rebounds) -- ended with five fouls.

Still, the gritty Warriors had chances to win. Swingman Anthony Morrow missed a potential game-winning 3-pointer with 12.4 seconds left.

"I thought Morrow was going to make that three to put us up one," Golden State coach Don Nelson said.

Center Ronny Turiaf (15 points, seven rebounds) mishandled a pass that would have resulted in an open layup and a tie at 108 with six seconds left.

"I am a little surprised he didn't catch it with the amount of times we connected," Curry said.

The Warriors were without center Andris Biedrins (sports hernia), guard Monta Ellis (strained back) and forwards Corey Maggette (strained left hamstring), Vladimir Radmanovic (Achilles) and Anthony Randolph (left ankle), among others.

This was no way for Golden State to start a five-game road trip that continues in Orlando on Wednesday and at Atlanta on Friday.

On the other hand, it could have been an ideal location to start. After all, the Heat, who were on a four-game losing streak, were only 14-14 at home and were coming off back-to-back home losses to Minnesota and Milwaukee. And this is a Miami team that narrowly defeated lowly New Jersey in South Florida early this season, and lost to Charlotte when the Bobcats were just 1-14 on the road and on a seven-game road losing streak.

However, Miami, aided by strong contributions from forward Quentin Richardson (15 points, seven rebounds) and center Jermaine O'Neal (14 points, 12 rebounds), and a 50-35 rebounding edge, took the victory Tuesday. And it makes no apologies.

"We're going to take wins any way we can," Wade said. "We only have 21 games left. Any win right now is a very big win, especially in this race."

Notes: Golden State coach Don Nelson remains seven victories from becoming the NBA's all-time regular-season victory leader as a head coach. He has 1,326 victories in 31 seasons, not far behind Hall of Famer Lenny Wilkens, who amassed 1,332 victories. ... Heat guard Rafer Alston was benched for the final three quarters in favor of Carlos Arroyo. "He just yanked me and never came back to me," Alston said of coach Erik Spoelstra. Alston is shooting .355 from the field this season.
