African-American women under 50 are more commonly diagnosed with basal-like breast cancer (also known as triple negative breast cancer), a fast-growing subtype of breast cancer. These cancers make low levels of three proteins that are usually targeted in breast cancer treatment. Fewer treatment options are available for these cancers, so studies are needed to find better treatments for them.
