Throughout history, storms at sea have claimed countless ships — and the lives of those aboard them. In this documentary, we explore the tragic fates of five remarkable vessels lost to violent weather.

From the modern-day sinking of the Bounty replica during Hurricane Sandy, to the mysterious disappearance of the MS München in the North Atlantic, each story reveals the devastating power of the ocean. We examine the ill-fated final voyage of the SS El Faro, lost to Hurricane Joaquin in 2015, and the 19th-century disaster of the sailing ship Cataraqui, still Australia’s worst maritime tragedy. We also revisit the capsizing of HMS Captain in 1870 — a revolutionary warship brought down by a design flaw exposed by a sudden gale.
