Hundreds of Bangladeshi Hindus gather at Indo-Bangladesh Border to seek refuge in India

Approx 1,000 individuals, reportedly Bangladeshi nationals, approached the India-Bangladesh border in Coochbehar, seeking refuge on Aug 09. This comes amid ongoing unrest in Bangladesh, which led Sheikh Hasina to resign as PM and take shelter in India. BSF successfully addressed the challenge as it promptly approached its counterpart, BGB and handed them over without escalating tensions. Meanwhile, MHA has constituted a committee that is to be headed by BSF ADG of Eastern Command to monitor the current IBB situation. As per Reuters, the minority Hindus have been targeted by mobs since August 05. Thousands of Bangladeshi Hindus have been trying to flee to neighbouring India to escape the violence. PM Modi also appealed for the "safety and protection" of Hindus and Bangladesh's other minorities in a message on X on August 08.
