Thruhiking Around Lake Tahoe-175 Miles on the Tahoe Rim Trail. Featuring a special visitor on Day 4!

The Tahoe Rim Trail makes a complete loop around Lake Tahoe, in the mountains high above the massive lake. Much of the trail is in designated wilderness, and the rest is remarkably remote considering how close the trail is to urban centers including South Lake Tahoe, Tahoe City, and Incline Village.

My trip around the lake ran from the end of July into early August. The weather was excellent and there were few bugs. Permits for the Tahoe Rim Trail are easy to secure. The moderate distance makes the Tahoe Rim Trail a perfect adventure for aspiring thruhikers, and the remote beauty ensures it is an exhilarating quest for repeat thruhikers too.
