Good theories do not expand the theoretical apparatus or introduce new entities. On the contrary, they simplify the picture of the world through generalization. They do this by pointing to a more fundamental level of explanation. At this level, it's possible to explain a multitude of different phenomena using just one or a few theses. At this more fundamental level, it turns out that various and seemingly unrelated phenomena have the same nature; they are simply different manifestations of the same principle or pattern.
