Call in arrears refers to the situation where a company has issued shares but has not received the full amount of the shares' nominal value from shareholders. This means that the shareholders owe the company the remaining amount of the shares' value. The company can "call" or request the shareholders to pay the outstanding amount when needed. Until the full amount is paid by the shareholders, the shares are said to be "in arrears." Companies typically have the right to demand payment of the arrears from shareholders, and failure to pay may result in penalties or consequences as outlined in the company's policies or legal regulations.
