Описание к видео Australian University Funding Changes: Culture War Or Pragmatic Plan for The Future?

The Government's planned changes to university funding means students studying subjects deemed to make them more job-ready—including, teaching, nursing, science and engineering—will pay lower fee contributions while those studying subjects such as humanities or law will pay higher fees.

Do the funding changes represent the most recent flare-up in long-standing hostilities between conservative government and the humanities.

Or perhaps they will contribute to students’ and Australia’s socioeconomic advancement and resilience as we respond to the impacts of COVID-19.

Where do you stand?

Join the ANU Learning Communities for an online discussion on what these changes mean for Australia and the relevance of the humanities.

Our host, former head of the federal Liberal Party and current professor at the ANU Crawford School of Public Policy, John Hewson AM, will then lead the discussion with our speakers who will share their thoughts and answer questions on these issues:

Professor Bruce Chapman, Sir Roland Wilson Chair of Economics, Crawford School of Public Policy, College of Asia & the Pacific

Professor Andrew Norton, Practice of Higher Education Policy, Centre for Social Research and Methods, College of Arts and Social Sciences

Dr Gemma King SFHEA, Convenor, French Research Cluster and French Honours Program, School of Literature, Languages and Linguistics, College of Arts and Social Sciences

Dr Josh Brown, Lecturer & Convenor, Italian Studies. School of Literature, Languages and Linguistics, College of Arts and Social Sciences

The Honorable Dr Andrew Leigh MP, Member for Fenner, Australian Labor Party, and Deputy Chair of Standing Committee on Economics

ANU Learning Communities sits within the Engagement and Success team at the Australian National University (ANU). The Learning Communities (LC) Team supports co-curricular learning at the ANU, organising and hosting events around the five themes of Global Challenges, Sustainability, Cultures, Creative Arts and History. We explore topical issues in a format that is accessible to all students, faculty and the wider general public.
