Volumetric Light Beam allows you to greatly improve the lighting of your scene by generating truly volumetric procedural beams of light / light shafts rays effects.
This is a perfect, easy and cheap way to simulate density and volume for your spot lights.

To achieve that, the asset will automatically and efficiently generate everything it needs to render the effect: a cone geometry mesh and a material. You don't have to do anything else than adding a new component!


Note that this asset is NOT a fullscreen Post Process / image effect. This is NOT similar to Unity's built-in Sun Shafts image effect.

Instead, Volumetric Light Beam will generate optimized geometry and material for each light beam. This technique has several advantages:
More granularity: offers you a very precise effect customisation per light beam.
You can add light beams anywhere, even at locations where there is no light.
Run faster. No Post Process to add to your camera.
Supports mobile platforms.


How to use it?
Volumetric Light Beam makes lighting enhancing so simple!
In the Unity's "Create" menu, browse to Light, and choose either one of the new entity:
Volumetric Beam: creates a new standalone beam of light (no lights attached).
Volumetric Beam and Spotlight: creates a new Spotlight with a beam of light attached to it.
In addition, you can add a Beam of light to any of your previously existing lights (or any GameObject) by just attaching the "Volumetric Light Beam" component to them.


Then you can precisely customize the rendering of each beam of light by adjusting a set of user-friendly properties. For even faster nice looking results, some properties are automatically binded to the Spotlight attached.

Truly volumetric FX: works even if you are INSIDE the beam of light.
Incredibly easy to use: add a new Volumetric Light Beam in one click, or attach one to any GameObject/Light.
Procedural generation: no need to create any custom material or geometry, everything is dynamically computed under the hood.
Customizable and dynamic 3D Noise feature to simulate volumetric fog/mist/smoke effects (not supported on mobile).
[NEW] Volumetric Dust Particles feature with dynamic culling to simulate highly detailed dustlight / mote effects in 1 click (Unity 5.5 or above only).
Super fast: all the procedural computation are done during loading time. Doesn't require any heavy post process FX.
Works great even on low-performance platforms such as mobiles (Shader Model 3.0).
Supports smooth intersection with geometry and camera.
Supports truncated cone geometry: the cone beam doesn't have to be sharp at its top.
Supports Deferred and Forward rendering.
Supports fog.
Useful stats about generated geometry are available directly in the inspector.
Full source code available / no DLL.
Supports from Unity 5.2 to latest 2017 versions.


Limitations:
For now, the current version of this asset has some minor limitations:
Changing Volumetric Light Beam properties dynamically during playmode is not supported yet. Modifying some properties may involve re-generating the cone geometry, which may be intensive in realtime.
Soft intersection with opaque geometry is supported. However, if your light beam is very long, and you place it against a wall, the beam may pass through it and be visible on the other side. This is planned to be supported in an upcoming update.
