Our concert are designed to help you unwind, escape and lift up your spirits! Here we present one of the stars on the Indian Classical music scene, Dr Pandit Ranajit Sengupta on the sarod, Kousik Banerjee on the Tabla and Chandrima Das on the Tampura, performing from 'On Air Theater' studios in Kolkata performing Raagas 'Marwa & Hemlalit’.

This performance is a special Tribute to the late Pandit Nikhil Ranjan Banerjee (14 October 1931 – 27 January 1986) who was an Indian classical sitarist of the Maihar Gharana. A student of the legendary Baba Allauddin Khan, Pandit Nikhil Banerjee was known for his technical virtuosity and clinical execution. Along with Pandit Ravi Shankar and Ustad Vilayat Khan, he emerged as one of the leading exponents of the sitar and a recipient of the Indian civilian honour of the Padma Bhushan. Dr Pandit Ranajit Sengupta has been highly inspired & influenced by the Music of Pandit Nikhil Banerjee and in this concert he performs Raga Marwa which is one of his favorite Ragas & was also a favourite of the Maestros Pandit Nikhil Banerjee. The Second raga he performs in this concert (Raga Hemlalit) is a Tribute to Pandit Nikhil Banerjee which is one of the 4 Ragas that Pandit Nikhil Banerjee composed and created himself. The Night before going to the studio to record this concert Dr Pandit Ranajit Sengupta composed a Gat (Composition) in Rupak Tala (7 Beats Rhythmic Cycle) which he recorded as a Tribute specially for this concert. He also performed another one of his own compositions in Ektal followed by a traditional composition in Drut Teental. Dr Pandit Ranajit Sengupta never saw Pandit Nikhil Banerjee perform live as he passed away the year before he started to learn the Sarod.

Dr. Pandit RANAJIT SENGUPTA is one of the Best Sarod Players & Music Composers from India having performed around the world for last 27 years representing his country. He is a student of late Ustad Dhyanesh Khan & Ustad Aashish Khan of Maihar Senia Gharana & attended several workshops by Late Dr. Ustad Ali Akbar Khan in India & California. He is one of the youngest TOP Grade Sarod Players from All India Radio & Television & winner of "Presidents' award for securing First position in All India Radio Competition, Acharya Baba Allauddin Memorial Award, Pandit Nikhil Bannerjee Memorial Award & "Best talent of the Year" award by HMV to name a few. He is a topper in both Graduation & Master's Exam from Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata & is a Guest Lecturer in Universities in USA, Canada, Germany, Switzerland, England & India. He has performed in Major Music Festivals & Venues in more than 45 Countries including USA, Canada, Switzerland, France, Germany, Italy, Denmark, The Netherlands, Greece, England, Scotland, Estonia, Russia, Africa, United Arab Emirates, Syria & Caribbean Islands to name a few. He has over 50 CD & DVD releases from around the world. Dr. Ranajit has composed Music for the Dutch Feature Film "Dark Amsterdam", the Title Music for the International Film Festival, Kolkata, in 1994 & the music for the Road Movie "Lost & Found Tour" filmed about himself & 3 other Austrian Musicians.

is currently the Principal Composer, Guest Conductor & GURU for SAMYO - The National Youth Orchestra for Indian Music in Great Britain.

has been a "Fellow of the Ministry of Culture", Govt. of India & an Artiste with ICCR.
