Arrhythmia induction: In some cases, the EP study may trigger an arrhythmia, which may require additional intervention or treatment.

Blood clots: Manipulation of the catheters within the heart can potentially dislodge small blood clots, which may cause complications if they travel to other parts of the body.

Perforation or damage to the heart or surrounding structures: While very uncommon, there is a risk of perforation of the heart wall or damage to nearby structures during the procedure.

Stroke or embolism: The movement of catheters within the heart can potentially lead to the release of particles or air bubbles that may cause a stroke or embolism if they travel to the brain or other organs.

Allergic reactions: Some patients may have an allergic reaction to the contrast dye used during the procedure.

Radiation exposure: EP studies often involve the use of X-ray imaging to guide the catheters, which can result in a small amount of radiation exposure.

Anesthetic risks: The use of anesthesia or sedation during the procedure carries its own set of risks, including respiratory issues and allergic reactions.

It's important for patients to discuss these risks and any other concerns they may have with their healthcare provider before undergoing an EP study. In many cases, the potential benefits of the procedure outweigh the risks, especially when the patient has a significant heart rhythm disorder that requires evaluation and possible treatment.
