(17 Sep 2016) TOURISTS UNFAZED BY MUNICH OKTOBERFEST SECURITY
Heavy rain and stricter security did little to dampen the spirits of beer lovers at the start of this year's Oktoberfest, which opened on Saturday in the Bavarian city of Munich.
Responding to a series of attacks in recent months, authorities decided to erect a metal fence, ban large bags, install more surveillance cameras and make visitors go through security checks to enter the festival grounds this year.
Inside the beer tents, revellers appeared to remain unconcerned by the heightened security as they enjoyed the flowing beer.
Mayor Dieter Reiter tapped the first keg at noon in one of 14 vast tents on Munich's Theresienwiese fairground, while Bavarian Prime Minister Horst Seehofer was also seen touring the beer tents.
During the traditional 'march of the innkeepers' various traditional bands and beer wagons marched and rolled through the city and Oktoberfest area.
Oktoberfest runs through 3 October.
