A historic Global Sumud Flotilla has departed Barcelona carrying humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip, marking the largest attempt to break the 18-year Israeli blockade by sea. The convoy, featuring around 20 boats from 44 countries, carries food, water, and medicine for civilians facing severe famine and malnutrition, including hundreds of children. Hundreds of activists, politicians, and journalists, including Greta Thunberg, are on board demanding safe passage and the opening of a humanitarian sea corridor. Supporters waved Palestinian flags and chanted “Free Palestine!” during the send-off. Ships from Italy and Tunisia will join the fleet, expected to reach Gaza around Sept. 14–15. This flotilla is the fourth attempt this year to deliver aid, after previous ships were stopped by the Israeli military. Amid ongoing conflict, the mission highlights the urgent humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
