Earlier this week, The ROV Hercules ran into this large six gill shark, or Hexanchus griseus. The encounter was both amazing and exciting, and at one point the shark turned and swam directly at the camera. From the head-on angle, there is a superb view of the 6 gill's rounded nose, and it becomes clear why this shark is sometimes referred to as a 'blunt-nose six gill'. There is also a good deal of closeup side footage, which makes it easy to spot the sharks namesake, it's six gill slits.
