Uhlan is a physical elemental heavy hitter and it's really good on this task. Since it has not much to offer aside of that, you can keep it under Haste, Bravery and Berserk for massive and most of the times single-hit overkill damage, as long as you're exploring elemental weapons.

You must get these elemental weapons as soon as possible which may be a downside for many players who don't like to sidetrack from the main story (but that's the way of FFXII).

Best Character
Being a physical job, Uhlan feeds on STR to be effective through the game and that's why Vaan is the best choice. Basch and Balthier are very good too, but the are more effective on Shikari and Samurai because of their combo animation speed.

Dual Job Combinations (The Zodiac Age only)

Uhlan + Machinist
Both are physical elemental heavy hitters
Spears and ammo combined to explore 7/8 elemental weaknesses. Storm Spear is to weak to be noticed past mid-game.
Acess Focus and Adrenaline: Focus increase physical damage dealt by 50% when HP is full. Adrenaline increase physical damage dealt by 100% when HP is critical.
Holy lance is very useful in the most difficulty areas of the game dealing up to 30k~40k damage per hit.

Pros:
Capable of single-hit kills as long as well set.
Acess Brave Suit and Renewing Morion.

Cons:
Rely on Bazaar to be effective.


Uhlan + Archer
This combination is not as effective as Uhlan + machinist, but still a great option.


Bushi + Uhlan

This allow Samurai to use heavy armor, also acess Focus and Adrenaline for massive damage against high HP targets, specially Doom Dragon and Yiazmat.
Chaos on Uhlan board unlock Aeroga, Bio, Blindga and Silencega and Mystic Armor from Bushi greatly increase the power of these spells.
Note that there are better combinations you can make with Bushi


White Mage + Uhlan

In this case Uhlan serves as a support job increasing the physical damage dealt by White Mage, allowing White Mage to use some black magic. Chaos on Uhlan board unlock Aeroga, Bio, Blindga and Silencega and Mystic Armor from Bushi greatly increase the power of these spells.
In the end of the game White Robe will increase damage dealt by Holy Lance.
Note that there are better combination for White Mage.


Red Mage + Uhlan

Same as White Mage + Uhlan, but this time if you Give Cuchulain to Red Mage you'll have acess to Firiga, Blizzaga, thundaga and Sleepga. Chaos on Uhlan board unlock Aeroga, Bio, Blindga and Silencega and Mystic Armor from Bushi greatly increase the power of these spells. It all depends on you whilling to sacrifice these two espers to this unit.
In the end of the game White Robe will increase damage dealt by Holy Lance.
Note that there are better combination for Red Mage.
