During the Arab Spring uprisings of 2011, women took on the roles of activists,
politicians and protesters. Women artists contributed to a cultural revolution that
sought to address social justice and gender issues. This talk explores the
involvement of Arab women in political activism through the use of street art.
Courageous women used the tumultuous – and sometimes dangerous – streets
of Egypt as their canvases to fight oppression and to break the chain of conformity—
to make their voices heard.

Nara Nasibova was raised in Prague, Czech Republic, and has attended an
international school her whole life, but is originally from Baku, Azerbaijan. She is
an IB visual arts student and aspiring artist, who draws inspiration from social
activists across the world.
