All aboard the Texture Train🚂 !!! Primary aged artists learn all about the element of texture with this texture locomotive 🚊project.


Join us on a tactile art adventure as we craft a 4-cart texture train using everyday household items. This project is inspired by the beloved book "Freight Train" by Donald Crews, and it's a fantastic way to engage young artists in exploring different textures and materials.

Materials Needed:

1 sheet of 6 x 18 blue construction paper
1 piece of 2 x 3 cardstock or cardboard (cart template) and/or Ruler
#2 pencil✏️
Fine Sharpie
Markers & crayons
Scissors ✂️
Glue stick
5 texture items (cotton ball or Q-tip for steam, toothpicks, coffee beans, foil, feathers, tissue paper, bubble wrap, cardboard, or string)

Project Outline:

▪️Measure and cut the blue construction paper to create the train base.
▪️Use the pencil and ruler to draw the train outline.
▪️Trace over the pencil lines with a fine Sharpie.
▪️Color the train with markers and crayons.
▪️Cut out different parts of the train.
▪️Glue the texture items onto the train to create a sensory experience.
