The OMV Schwechat Refinery is one of the largest and most modern inland refineries in Europe with a capacity of approximately 9.6 mn tons per year. The Adria-Wien-Pipeline (AWP) which is a branch connection of the Transalpine Oil Pipeline (TAL) transports crude oil from Trieste straight to the refinery. Complex distillation and refining processes turn crude oil into high-value petroleum products and petrochemicals. The Schwechat Refinery distinguishes itself having the highest safety-, environmental- and product standards including optimum market proximity.
