Carol DeDecker Wiens talks about growing up in Independence, California in the 1930s and 40s. Carol co-authored with her sister Joan DeDecker Busby the book “Sage & Sierra: Growing Up in OwensValley.” The sisters are daughters of Paul and Mary DeDecker. Mary became a noted botanist and author of several well-regarded books of history and desert flora. The family lived a memorable and exciting life of hiking, camping and backpacking in the Eastern Sierra.
