We’re here at PackExpo, demonstrating the FreshPak® BarrierPlus Resealable Packaging System, seen here retrofitted to a PurPak horizontal flow-wrapper. This easy open and resealable packaging system is simulating the packaging of shingled sliced cheese.
The FreshPak BarrierPlus applicator is retrofit to your existing wrapper. This retrofit includes of a die-station, the FreshPak tape applicator and a dancer controlled film feed system.
The packaging film flows from the film unwind, to the left through the wrapper’s dancer controlled film feed system, and then to the right, entering the die station located inside the black guarding.
Using the printed packaging films eye mark, the film is die cut in film flow direction, between and inside of the end seals. The TamperTear™ die-cut is immediately covered by the FDA compliant resealable FreshPak tape. By using FreshPak BarrierPlus, the primary packaging film barrier properties of oxygen transmission (OTR) and water vapor transmission rates (WVTR) are maintained.
No heat is used to apply the tape, and the system has NO effect on line speed. The FreshPak resealable package requires no additional packaging film, using less packaging film and reducing package weight when compared to similar zipper packages.
Exiting the die station area, the film flow is to the left, into a retrofitted dancer controlled film feed system, then into the forming box.
Because the tape is thin and flexible there is no change to the flow-wrappers former or the seal jaws, and the line speed of the wrapper is unaffected.
The FreshPak BarrierPlus system enables the FreshPak reseal feature to be added into more demanding application spaces such as modified atmosphere packaging (MAP) and other high barrier packaging applications. The system does not compromise the packages integrity and eliminates the possibility of leakers in the end seal.
The FreshPak BarrierPlus package maintains the package OTR and WVTR, while providing Easy Open, Resealability and Tamper Evidence. FreshPak tape is available in FDA direct food contact compliant materials, can be custom printed and recyclable.
In the middle of the die cut area, an OPEN graphic has been added to the packaging film print design, to direct the consumer where to open.
Open the FreshPak package by holding onto the edge of the tape and the edge of the film and pulling apart. YES! It’s that easy to open.
See the package film tearing open, unevenly, right through the graphic? This is TamperTear technology!
The package opens full width providing unrestricted access to the product, yet the die cut ends inside the end seals, as you can see.
Once the feature has been opened and resealed, Sealstrip’s TamperTear® technology makes it obvious the package was previously opened.
FreshPak is easier to use then a zipper. When resealing, there are no tracks to re-align nor a need to check if the zipper is actually closed.
To reseal the package, simply press the tape back against the package. Once resealed, the package contains the product and maintains freshness, while the TamperTear design provides visual evidence the package has been previously opened and resealed.
