It has been one year since five people were shot in the parking lot of Seattle’s Rainier Valley Safeway store and no suspects have ever been identified or arrested. Which has led to continued worry for nearby residents and workers.

On the evening of July 28, 2023, two members of the Boys and Girls Clubs of King County and three other people were shot while they gathered for a community outreach event in the parking lot of the Rainier Beach Safeway in the 9200 block of Rainier Avenue South. According to police, at least two shooters opened fire, with witnesses telling officers dozens of bullets were fired into the temporary tents and tables set up for the event.
