Container gardens can add a whole new dimension to your outdoor space softening the edges of decks defining patios or by adding a touch of visual excitement.

The first thing to consider when planting a container garden is the size and types of containers. You can use anything for a planter - a terracotta pot an antique container like an old watering can pail or basin, whatever.

There are a couple of key things to keep in mind. The larger the container the less frequently it will need to be watered, and whatever container you use should have holes in the bottom to drain excess water. As well planters large in scale suit a larger deck or backyard space.
