The Fascinating Story of The Iron Giant

The Iron Giant is truly an underrated masterpiece of 90s cinema. While still a family friendly animated film, it was built upon a philosophical message that transcends the boundaries of its surface level categories. Brad Bird conceptualized and directed the film after losing his sister a few years prior. The resulting work is a truly moving film that continues to resonate with millions the world over.

In this video essay, I examine the story of the film, as well as take a dive into how it was made. We analyze the plot, themes, and messaging of the movie - and try to understand what we can best learn from it.

Hi, I'm Tim. Growing up, The Iron Giant was one of my favorite films. I recently stumbled upon it again and was completely inspired to create this video. Unraveling the story of the film and how it was made, I realized I had come across a true hidden gem of a cult classic. I felt I needed to spread the word of not only how amazing of a film it is, but also its sentimental, heartfelt philosophy.
